Stine Bidstrup has been awarded the Honorary Award from the Danish National Bank’s Anniversary Foundation - one of Denmark’s most prestigious distinctions in the fields of architecture, design, and craftsmanship. The award is granted annually to a practicing Danish professional in the field, by nomination only.
In its official citation, the Foundation pays tribute to Bidstrup’s visionary practice and artistic depth:
“Stine Bidstrup sees the world through glass and through glass she shows us the world. Her works are a presentation of the potential of glass, of the properties of the material, systematically demonstrated in the great variety of works that make up her already extensive oeuvre, which in addition to glass, includes installations, photography and video. In her practice, she investigates ideologies linked to optical phenomena as well as theories about both chaos and utopia. Her work is inspired by and based on the history of architecture and design. Bidstrup creates her sculptures from mouth-blown colored glass, which is shaped in plaster molds. The works appear as if they were the rocky architectural models and jagged artificial landscapes that always contain great beauty in their materialization of Stine Bidstrup's sensitive registration of the world.”
The award recognizes Bidstrup’s profound influence on contemporary glass art and her ability to merge material experimentation with critical and poetic perspectives.
