Karen Bennicke, MP II, 2023. Terracotta, slab built. 8.75" H x 33.5" W x 6.25" D
We're thrilled to announce that Pittsburgh's Carnegie Museum of Art has acquired the sculpture MP II by Karen Bennicke. The terracotta sculpture was featured in Bennicke's solo exhibition Manhattan Portraits last autumn and offers a cartographic reinterpretation of the city of New York, its architecture, and its flows of movement. The title of Bennicke's exhibition refers to a project carried out in the late 1970s by architect Bernard Tschumi titled The Manhattan Transcripts — a series of diagrams, photographs, drawings, and short texts which approached architecture through the use of narratives of motion, which is also housed at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
