In Alchemists’ Convention: A Ceramic Meeting between Past and Present, Bente Skjøttgaard follows in the footsteps of the French ceramicist Jean Carriès. Working from a photocopy of the article “Céramique de grand feu” published after Carriès’ death and said to have taught Europe how to make stoneware, Skjøttgaard reproduced elements of his glaze for her series Family Trees, which she describes as witnesses to the passage of history.
